Pangong Tso is the highest lake in the world. Amidst magical setting of Karkoram and Great Himalayan mountains, this lake is almost 135-140 kilometers long and is shared between Indiaa and china. You will be crossing Chang-La pass which is third highest motorable pass in the world when you travel from Leh. Pangong Tso is a salt water lake and with it's absolutely blue coloured water which changes it's colour with different shades of magestic mountains around it , it's view reminds of those old time swan stories set in golden era of gods and havens. If you are staying at Leh, You may plan a morning to evening trip to this lake but start early at around 0600 AM so that you are back in decent time. While you will find food joints enroute as well as near the lake, you may carry packed food if you wish. It is advisable to carry bottled water. At Chang-la, tea, maggi and snacks are available. If you wish to stay overnight, accomodation is available at Tangtse and also near the Pangong Tso lake which can be booked through Tour operators.
The first view of the lake when you approach it is breathtaking and you will be left mesmerised. Do not forget to collect back your packaging trash in case you have carried some as this area is unadulterated and unpolluted. In our own interest, we must preserve all such places if we have to save earth.
Best Time to travel Pangong Tso is between Early June to End Sepetember when the high passes are open. Durin This season, light woolens are recommended specially when you are passing through Chang-La pass.
